Juanita Reid: 1915-2009

Juanita Reid, age 93, a life long resident of Allen County, died Sunday March 8, 2009 at the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne where she had been a patient since May of 2008. She formerly lived on Fritz Road for many years.Juanita was born June 6, 1915 in Perry Twp. Allen County, a daughter of the late Cecil and Lillian (Newman) Repine. She had owned and operated the Fritz Real Estate Company for many years and retired from Byron Health Center in Fort Wayne as a Geriatric Technician.She is survived by her children, Darwin R. (Judy) Ott of Fort Wayne, Joyce A. Smith of Bremeton, Washington, and Hazel (Thomas) Gunderman of North Little Rock, Arkansas; step-children Delores (Melvin) Kuehnert, Betty Dunten, Richard (Alice) Fritz, Alvin (Jean) Fritz and Kenneth (Barbara) Fritz all of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Kenneth and Paul Repine; a sister Helen Neal; and her husbands.Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 11, 2009 at 10:00 a. m. in the St John’s Lutheran Church-Lake Twp. 7914 W. Cook Road Fort Wqyne, with Pastor Ralph W. Easterhaus officiating. Burial will follow in the Eel River Cemetery in Allen County. The family will receive friends in the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p. m. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Twp. Building Fund. Envelops will be available in the funeral home.

Loren G. “Zeb” Stahlhut, age 74, a resident of rural Churubusco, died Sunday morning March 8, 2009 at his residence. He had been in ill health but his death was unexpected. Zeb was the third generation born on the family farm near Arcola settled by his great-grandfather in the 1860s. He was born December 4, 1934 in Lake Twp. Allen County, Indiana a son of the late Carl and Gertrude (Wertman) Stahlhut. As a young man he started driving a milk truck route at the tender age of 14 in the Arcola Fort Wayne area and attended Arcola High School. He was engaged in farming for 40 plus years, and over the years, he was employed by Smitty’s Welding, followed by Schaefer Implements and finally started Zeb’ Welding and Repair for 42 years. He was united in marriage at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church to Beverly Joyce Chastain on July 3, 1954. The couple moved to their farm in Churubusco in 1967, living there while raising their 4 children and countless cows. He was admired by many farmers in the Ft. Wayne/Arcola area and regarded as the man to call for his extensive knowledge and skill in repairing all types of farm equipment. His unsurpassed mechanical skills were nowhere more evident than in his own farm equipment including his Minneapolis Moline Tractors with which he did his own farming. His hobbies included Pony Pulls, Bowling, a lifelong love of playing Euchre and Spoons as well as a recently acquired passion for his Wii and Wii Fit. His alltime favorite pastime was repairing something that no one else could.
Michelle Burget Miller, 40, a resident of Huntertown, died at 12:57 p. m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.
Tom L. Fulk, 71, a resident of rural Churubusco, died at 4:00 p. m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his residence north of Churubusco. Although he had been in declining health, his death was unexpected.
