Juanita Reid: 1915-2009

reid-juanita.jpgJuanita Reid, age 93, a life long resident of Allen County, died Sunday March 8, 2009 at the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne where she had been a patient since May of 2008. She formerly lived on Fritz Road for many years.Juanita was born June 6, 1915 in Perry Twp. Allen County, a daughter of the late Cecil and Lillian (Newman) Repine. She had owned and operated the Fritz Real Estate Company for many years and retired from Byron Health Center in Fort Wayne as a Geriatric Technician.She is survived by her children, Darwin R. (Judy) Ott of Fort Wayne, Joyce A. Smith of Bremeton, Washington, and Hazel (Thomas) Gunderman of North Little Rock, Arkansas; step-children Delores (Melvin) Kuehnert, Betty Dunten, Richard (Alice) Fritz, Alvin (Jean) Fritz and Kenneth (Barbara) Fritz all of Fort Wayne.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Kenneth and Paul Repine; a sister Helen Neal; and her husbands.Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 11, 2009 at 10:00 a. m. in the St John’s Lutheran Church-Lake Twp. 7914 W. Cook Road Fort Wqyne,  with Pastor Ralph W. Easterhaus officiating. Burial will follow in the Eel River Cemetery in Allen County. The family will receive friends in the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p. m. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Twp. Building Fund.  Envelops will be available in the funeral home.

Loren G. “Zeb” Stahlhut: 1934-2009

stahlhut-loren-g.jpgLoren G. “Zeb” Stahlhut, age 74, a resident of rural Churubusco, died Sunday morning March 8, 2009 at his residence. He had been in ill health but his death was unexpected. Zeb was the third generation born on the family farm near Arcola settled by his great-grandfather in the 1860s. He was born December 4, 1934 in Lake Twp. Allen County, Indiana a son of the late Carl and Gertrude (Wertman) Stahlhut. As a young man he started driving a milk truck route at the tender age of 14 in the Arcola Fort Wayne area and attended Arcola High School. He was engaged in farming for 40 plus years, and over the years, he was employed by Smitty’s Welding, followed by Schaefer Implements and finally started Zeb’ Welding and Repair for 42 years.  He was united in marriage at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church to Beverly Joyce Chastain on July 3, 1954. The couple moved to their farm in Churubusco in 1967, living there while raising their 4 children and countless cows. He was admired by many farmers in the Ft. Wayne/Arcola area and regarded as the man to call for his extensive knowledge and skill in repairing all types of farm equipment. His unsurpassed mechanical skills were nowhere more evident than in his own farm equipment including his Minneapolis Moline Tractors with which he did his own farming. His hobbies included Pony Pulls, Bowling, a lifelong love of playing Euchre and Spoons as well as a recently acquired passion for his Wii and Wii Fit. His alltime favorite pastime was repairing something that no one else could.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Beverly J. Stahlhut; their children Michael (Georgia) Stahlhut of Churubusco,  Kathy (David) Cramer of Pensacola, Florida, and Timothy Stahlhut, and Cindy (John) Husar, both of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry (Joy) Stahlhut of Fort Wayne, Dennis (Renee) Smith of Lantana, Florida, and Stanley (Sally) Smith of Chugiak, Alaska.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Ronald Stahlhut in 2000 and sister Karen Lambert in 2005.Funeral services will be held on Friday March 13, 2009 at 10:00 a. m. in the Faith Lutheran Church in Churubusco with Pastor Lane Burgland, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p. m. in the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, and also on Friday morning at the church one hour prior to the service.For those who wish memorial contributions may be directed to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Indiana Chapter, 941 E. 86 th. Street, suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 42640-1842.  Envelops will be available in the funeral home.

Michelle Burget Miller: 1968 – 2009

miller-michelle.jpgMichelle Burget Miller, 40, a resident of Huntertown, died at 12:57 p. m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Michelle was born on October 28, 1968 in Columbia City, a daughter of Delbert F. and Troas E. (Sinnigen) Burget, and spent her formative years in the Arcola area.  She graduated from Carroll High School in 1987, and had also been a student at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne.

Her marriage took place in Jacksonville, North Carolina on May 13, 1987 to Matthew L. Miller.  The couple lived in Lake Township in Allen County for a period, and had lived in Huntertown for the past five years.

Previously, she had been employed at Culligan Water Conditioning in Fort Wayne, and for the past two years worked as a consultant for The Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne.

The surviving relatives include her husband Matthew; her sons Andrew James Miller, Ryan Michael Miller, and Kyle Anthony Miller, all of Huntertown; her mother Troas Burget of Huntertown; a sister Treasa (Wayne) Linnemeier of Fort Wayne; her in-laws Dick and Ruth Millikan of Churubusco; and a grandson Carter Lane Miller.

She was preceded in death by her father Delbert F. Burget; and by a brother Delbert Burget.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Corinne K. Boruff, pastor of Churubusco United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Thursday from 2 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

Tom L. Fulk: 1937 – 2009

fulk-tom.jpgTom L. Fulk, 71, a resident of rural Churubusco, died at 4:00 p. m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his residence north of Churubusco.  Although he had been in declining health, his death was unexpected.

Mr. Fulk was born in Green Township on October 28, 1937, a son of Jess L. and Clara A. (Boggs) Fulk.  He spent his formative years in Camden, Michigan before returning to this area with his parents as a teenager.   As an adult he lived in Collins for a period, and had lived at his present farm home in Smith Township since 1972.

On August 17, 1957 he was married at Ege to Mary A. Martin.  She preceded him in death on February 22, 1981.  He later was married in Churubusco to Marilyn J. Geiger on May 28, 1982.  She died on March 24, 2007.

Employed at American Hoist in Fort Wayne, for 24 years, he retired as a materials handler at C&A Tool & Engineering in Churubusco after 14 years. He was also engaged in farming.  In his leisure time he enjoyed working with livestock, going to the sale barn, and most especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren.

The surviving relatives include his children Vaughn (Tina) Fulk of Columbia City, Erin (Mike) Sneary of Avilla, Allison (Larry) Patton of Churubusco, Vincent Fulk of Angola, Amy (Lee) Tilbury of Avilla, Virgil (Jennifer) Fulk of Columbia City, and Christi (Perry) Coe of Churubusco; his step-children Max L. (Sandy) Herendeen and Teresa (Mike) Byrum, both of Columbia City, and Terry Herendeen and Mary Lou (Bill) Vaught, both of Churubusco; a brother Richard Fulk of Wolf Lake; two sisters Bonnie Resner of Speedwell, Tenn. and Elizabeth “Jill” Pegg of Fort Wayne; 23 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and two wives, he was preceded in death by an infant sister Mary Ellen Fulk.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Rick Van Horn, the facilitator.  

The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p. m.

Interment will be in the Ege Catholic Cemetery, Noble County.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Churubusco High School Baseball Program.
