Susan A. Rosentrader: 1947 – 2009

rosentrader-susan.jpgSusan Rosentrader, 61, of rural Churubusco, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at home after battling cancer.

She was born in Lafayette on December 1, 1947 to Bruce and Helen (Padgett) Atkinson.  She graduated from Paoli High School in 1965,  Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education in 1969, and earned her master’s degree from Purdue in 1972.

She married Larry V. Rosentrader on December 23, 1972.  She was foremost a teacher and mother.  She was a mini 4-H leader for 18 years, a Master Gardener, and was active with the church including its food pantry.

Surviving are her husband Larry Rosentrader; three children Aaron (Rena) Rosentrader, Sarah (Matt) Furthmiller, and Rebekah (Nick) Petges; two grandchildren Andrew and Zachary Furthmiller; her parents Bruce and Helen Atkinson; four siblings Teresa (David) Shuman, Pam Brown, Mark (Amy) Atkinson, and Brian (Jennifer) Atkinson; and nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church. 

Memorials may be made to the church food pantry.

Phyllis P. Miller: 1918 – 2009

miller-phyllis-p.jpgPhyllis P Miller, age 90, a lifelong resident of rural Columbia City, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis was born December 18, 1918, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of the late Paul and Alta (Hawk) Egolf. She was a graduate of Churubusco High School with the class of 1936, and had worked as a seamstress at Blue Bell in Columbia City until her marriage to John H. Miller on June 26, 1940.

Her memberships include the Blue River Church of the Brethren, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, organist, and church camp counselor. She enjoyed knitting, working in the yard flower gardening.  She also had volunteered at the Whitley County Hospital.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Bob Green of LaOtto; a brother Roger Egolf of Fort Wayne; a sister Beatrice Leitch of Churubusco; and grandchildren, Richard “Rick” (Paula) Green of Churubusco, Anita (Scot) Green-Martin of LaOtto, and Matthew  (Kim) Green of Avilla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, on October 25, 1971; a daughter, Jeanette I. Miller in 1958; three sisters Elizabeth Orcutt, Mary Jo Kennedy and Corrine Carig; and by a brother, Norman Egolf.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Blue River Church of the Brethren, 3040 East 700 North, Columbia City, with Pastor Craig Alan Myers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Christian Chapel Cemetery in Merriam.

The family will receive friends in the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Monday, July 6, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 P.M. or Tuesday morning  at the church from 10:00 A.M. until service time.

For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the Mission Fund at Blue River Church of the Brethren. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.

John H. “Jack” Fletter: 1923 – 2009

fletter-john.jpgJohn H. “Jack” Fletter, age 85, a resident of Holiday Park in Churubusco, Indiana died Tuesday June 30, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness. He had formerly lived on Harrold Road at Blue Lake West of Churubusco.

Jack was born October 13, 1923 in Fort Wayne, Indiana a son of the late John David and Mary M. (Starost) Fletter. He was united in marriage on September 19, 1942 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Leonteen M. Rodman who preceded him in death on June 3, 1991. He later married Marceil Genth Hughes on July 30, 1994 who survives. Jack retired in 1985 from American Hoist & Derick as a service representative with 43 years of faithful service, and was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.

The survivors include his wife Marceil, children Bruce David (Diane) Fletter of Grand Rapids, Michigan; David Michael (Companion Deb Lukmani) Fletter of Churubusco, Indiana, John David (Marlise) Fletter of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Jackie (Barry) Miller of Churubusco. Sister Mary Klemm of Angola, Indiana and 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson John Edward Fletter.

Funeral services for Jack will be held Friday July 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Churubusco with Father Danney Pinto officiating. Burial will follow in the Orange Twp. Cemetery South of Rome city, Indiana. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the Sheets and Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, and on Friday morning at the Church from 10:00 A.M, until service time.
