Aiden Anthony Rossi: 2009

Aiden Anthony Rossi, infant son of Brandon L. Rossi and Kasey Sue Streby of Churubusco, was stillborn at 7:15 p. m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Parkview North Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Surviving in addition to the parents are maternal grandparents James and Kimberly Streby of Churubusco and Anthony, Sr. and Shari Rossi of Fort Wayne; and great-grandparents Tony and Charlotte Rossi of Orlando, Fla., James and Jan Myers of Churubusco, Gail Dubea of Fort Wayne, James Andrews of Wolcottville, Tom Kuehner of Albion, John Eichman of New Haven, and Dorothy Eichman of Fort Wayne.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p. m. on Monday, January 4, 2010, at the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco, with Pastor Rick Van Horn, officiating.  Interment will follow.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph F. Bailey: 1917–2009

Bailey, JosephJoseph F. Bailey, 92, a resident of Blue Lake near Churubusco, died at 5:09 a. m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City.  He had been a patient there since Saturday.

Mr. Bailey was born on April 23, 1917 in Huntington, a son of Charles and Cressie (Folk) Bailey.  He graduated from Southside High School in Fort Wayne, and as a young man served with the U. S. Navy during World War II.

On April 21, 1940 he was married in Bluffton to Vadis V. Park, and had lived at Blue Lake since 1947.  He had been employed at Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne, retiring from there in 1977, and was a member of the Merriam Christian Chapel.

Mrs. Bailey preceded him in death on September 16, 2007.

The surviving relatives include his children Barbara (Robert) Konger of Winter Haven, Florida, and Bruce A. (Lois) Bailey and Richard M. Bailey, both of Churubusco; his brother Arthur Bailey of St. Cloud, Florida; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Terry L. Zolman, pastor of Merriam Christian Chapel, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to a food bank or soup kitchen of the donor’s choice.

Glen D. Ott: 1927 – 2009

Ott, Glen DGlen D. Ott, 82, a resident of rural Churubusco, died at 7:57 p. m. on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville following an extended illness.  He had been taken to the hospital on Tuesday from the North Ridge Village Nursing & Rehab Center in Albion.

Mr. Ott was born on August 6, 1927 in Eel River Township in Allen County, a son of Thomas Lawrence and Laura Pearl (Fisher) Ott, and spent his formative years on the family farm there.  He graduated from Huntertown High School, and was engaged in farming there until 1980 when he sold the farm to his son and moved to Churubusco.  He retired in 1987 as a machinist and fork lift operator for Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne after 38 years.

He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, east of Churubusco.  In his leisure time he enjoyed Angus cattle, fishing and spending time at the lake in the summer, wintering in Lakeland, Florida, and most especially loved and enjoyed his wife and family.

On May 28, 1948 he was married in Wolf Lake to Phyllis G. Bender.  She preceded him in death on August 30, 2009.

The surviving relatives include his children Judy (Roy) Langdon of Sheridan, Larry (Christina) Ott of Albion, and Jerry A. (Pamela) Ott of Churubusco; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by a sister Jessie Dice Johnson; and by four brothers Everett Ott, Herman Ott, Russell Ott, and Howard Ott.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 3 to 8 p. m. on Monday, or one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 13733 Wesley Chapel Rd., Churubusco, IN  46723

Evelyn M. Eytcheson: 1920 – 2009

Eytcheson, EvelynEvelyn M. Eytcheson, 89, a former resident of Eel River Township near Churubusco and more recently of Columbia City, died at 7:45 p. m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the residence of her daughter in Columbia City.  She had been in declining health since June.

Mrs. Eytcheson was born on March 22, 1920 in Huntington, a daughter of David Oliver and Cerena Ardesa (Cormany) DeWitt, and spent her formative years in the Arcola-area.

On April 3, 1937 she was married in Ligonier to Wilbur D. “Boob” Eytcheson, and spent her adult life in Eel River Township in Allen County until moving to Columbia City seven years ago.

Well known as a waitress in Churubusco, she had worked at the former Pat’s Cafe and was later employed at the Magic Wand Restaurant.  She was a member of the Jim Eby Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post 857 in Fort Wayne, and the Gilbert Davis American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 157 in Churubusco.

Mr. Eytcheson preceded her in death on October 16, 1973.

The surviving relatives include her two daughters Marilyn (Kenneth) Frazier of Churubusco and Doris Jones of Columbia City.  There are six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-gret-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Friday, December 18, 2009, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Bob Courtney, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p. m. Thursday at the mortuary, or one hour prior to the service Friday.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

Larry L. Kennedy: 1941 – 2009

Larry L. Kennedy, age 68, a resident of Manistee, Michigan for the past few years, died Friday December 4, 2009 in the Manistee County Medical Facility. He was born May 1, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana a son of the late John A. and Mary Jo (Egolf) Kennedy. As a youth he lived in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area and was a 1959 graduate of the Arcola High School. His career was in sales.

His survivors include his 2 daughters, Becky Bell and Nieta VanEngelenhoven both of Fort Wayne, and a son, Shane (Wife Kim) Kennedy of Churubusco, Indiana 1 sister Charlene Heath of  Fort Wayne, 6 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Monday December 14, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. in the Arcola United Methodist Church 11311 Arcola Road Arcola, Indiana with Pastor Harold Klinker officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 P.M. until service time in the church. 

In Liew of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be directed to the Arcola United Methodist Church or Cancer Services of Allen County. Envelopes will be available in the church.
