Harriet E. Wiard, 98, a resident of Fort Wayne and widow of Donald D. Wiard, passed into eternity with her Lord at 3:30 a. m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Hamilton House in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Wiard was born in Charlevoix, Michigan on August 31, 1912, a daughter of Charles J. and Amelia (Schaffer) Cork, and spent most of her early years in Michigan. On October 12, 1934 she was married in Burr Oak, Michigan to Donald D. Wiard, and had lived in Fort Wayne since 1945.
She had been employed at the Valspar Paint Company in Fort Wayne for over 30 years, retiring from there in 1977. She attended the Eel River Baptist Church, south of Churubusco.
Mr. Wiard preceded her in death on September 5, 1997.
The surviving relatives include a daughter Phyllis Arvola of Arcola; two sons Robert C. (Joy) Wiard of Churubusco and Richard Wiard of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter Betty L. Waltenburg on May 1, 2009. Also deceased are four brothers, five sisters, a half-sister, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Monday, September 27, 2010, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with the Rev. Kerry Niman, pastor of Eel River Baptist Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery, north of Ligonier.
