Dorothy L. Easterday: 1945-2010

Dorothy L. Easterday, age 65, a resident at the Northridge Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albion for the past several years, past away there onWednesday November 24, 2010 following an extended illness. She had previously lived on North Orange Street in Albion and prior to that in Butler.

Dorothy was born on June 16, 1945 in Hammond, a daughter of the late Howard and Minor (Moverhill) Hays.  She was married on January 1, 1991 in Butler to Jerry L. Easterday, and was a homemaker.

Surviving in addition to her husband Jerry are  her children David (Jenni) Hayes and Kelly Hayes both of Kendallville, Howard Hayes of Three Rivers, Mich., Timothy Hayes of Orbin, Kansas, Jerry Leon (Karen) Easterday of Fremont, Betty (Kevin)  Earle of Wheatfield, Susan Hayes of Lowell, and Renee Christine (Mark) Logan of Plainfield. Also surviving is one brother Joe (Shirley) Hays of Munster; and 18 grandchildren.

The family is following Dorothy’s last wishes by not haveing any calling hours or service.  A memorial service may be planned in the future.

Hulda L. Duncan: 1922 – 2010

Dunca, Hulda 1Hulda L. Duncan, 88, a resident of rural Churubusco and widow of Earnest A. Duncan, passed away at 4:30 p. m. on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.  She had been in declining health for the past seven years.

Mrs. Duncan was born on January 29, 1922 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of William and Freida (Linnemeier) Kruse, and spent her formative years on the family farm in Washington Township.

As a young woman she was employed in Fort Wayne at General Electric and at Kelly Box, and was married in Fort Wayne Duncan, Hulda 2_0001on August 10, 1945 to Earnest A. Duncan.   She spent all of her adult life in rural Smith Township, and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, its Lutheran Church Women, and the Whitley County Home Extension Club.

Mr. Duncan preceded her in death on January 26, 2000.

The surviving relatives include her children Joyce (Walter, Jr.) Roberson of Longmont, Colorado, and Dale E. (Dee) Duncan and Joan (Randy) Wilson, both of Churubusco.  There are 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Paul Kruse.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, 7914 W. Cook Road, with Pastor Darrol Heggen, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, or Churubusco Youth For Christ.
