Virginia Belle (Deutsch) Owen: 1917 – 2010

Owen, VirginiaVirginia Owen, 93, a resident of Albion and widow of Clarence Owen, passed away at 5:15 a. m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.

Mrs. Owen was born on September 20, 1917 in Whitley County, a daughter of Frank and Clara (Gebert) Deutsch, and moved as a child with her parents to Collins.  She attended the Collins Grade School, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1935.

On July 6, 1940 she was married in South Milford to Clarence Owen, and lived all of her adult life in Noble County.  She had previously worked at Blue Bell in Columbia City, and retired in 1980 from Dana Weatherhead Division in Columbia City after 30 years.

She was a member of the Green Center United Methodist Church, UAW Local 1404, and the Weatherhead Pioneer Club.

Mr. Owen preceded her in death on February 23, 1985.

The surviving relatives include a son Larry (Diane Betz) Owen of Bluffton; her daughter Luana Walker of Albion; a daughter-in-law Judith (Anderson) Owen of Albion; a sister Isabelle Maggart of Columbia City; her grandchildren David (Lisa Cordis Buchhop) Owen of Napoleon, Ohio, Dana Owen of Warsaw, Dawn (Michael) Carter of Stafford, Virg., Sarah Owen of Washington, DC, Julie (Duane) Modlin of Warsaw, North Carolina, and Mark (Rachel Murphy) Owen of Bluffton; two great-grandchildren Kate and Luke Carter of Stafford, Virg; and three step-great-grandchildren Jena (Wade) Campbell of Port Aransas, Tx., and Chris and Sarah Buchhop of Napoleon, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Charles Owen; a stillborn daughter; a son-in-law Riley Walker;  four brothers Lloyd Deutsch, Gerald Deutsch, Virgil Deutsch, and Clifford Deutsch; and three sisters Mabel Henderson, Crystal Shively, and Katherine Nace.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, December 27, 2010, at the Green Center United Methodist Church, with Pastor Nancy Fergusson, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 2 to 5 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Green Center United Methodist Church.

Franklin Geiger: 1914 – 2010

Geiger, Franklin_0001Franklin Geiger, 96, a lifelong farmer in Green Township in Noble County, passed away at 2:32 a. m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 following a brief illness.

Mr. Geiger was born on March 2, 1914 in Noble County, a son of Herschel and Leona (Eberly) Geiger.  He and his wife Lenora Ellen (Fulk) Geiger would have been married 70 years on February 27, 2011.  In addition to being engaged in farming, he was also a co-owner of the former Geiger Equipment, Inc. in Churubusco for many years.

As a child he joined the Sugar Grove Church of God, north of Churubusco, and was an active member until his death.

The surviving relatives include his wife Lenora Ellen; two daughters Joan (Hanson) Young and Janice (Robert) Parquet; a son John F. (Janis) Geiger; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers Earl Geiger, Everett Geiger, H. William Geiger, and Thomas Geiger, and by infant twin brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday, December 24, 2010, at the Sugar Grove Church of God, with Pastor Timothy Grable, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Thursday from 3 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the family plot at Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you give a gift to a friend or family in need during this Christmas season.

Robert D. Hohn: 1958 – 2010

Hohn, RobertRobert D. Hohn, 52, a former resident of Kaiserslautern, Germany and more recently of Churubusco, passed away at 7:05 p. m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.

Mr. Hohn was born in Helena, Montana on June 5, 1958, a son of Vincient J. and Inez R. (Larson) Hohn.  He spent his formative years near Townsend, Montana and graduated from Broadwater County High School in 1976.  Upon completing his education, he entered the U. S. Army, and served for 11 years.

Throughout his adult life he lived and worked as a computer technician, and last worked as the international operations manager for International Outsource in Germany.  He had moved to Churubusco recently to be near his daughter.

A proud veteran, he was a member of the American Legion, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, and the 40 & 8.

On June 14, 1976 he was married to Maria Colella.  She survives.

Also surviving are his children Christina (Andrew) Geiger of Churubusco and Daniel R. Hohn of Worms, Germany; his mother Inez R. Hohn of Townsend, Mt; his siblings James V. Hohn of East Helena, Mt., Sheila (LaVerne) Heavirland of East Helena, Mt., Thomas K. Hohn of Columbus, Mt., Beverly A. Hohn of Vancouver, Wa., Mark J. (Penny) Hohn of Kent, Wa., David L. (Dee) Hohn of Tuttle, Ok., and Brian D. (Claudette) Hohn of Townsend, Mt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday, December 11, 2010, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Jim Martin of Columbia City First Church of God, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 a. m. until the time of the service.

Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in any way to honor our veterans.

Joe W. Krider: 1916 – 2010

Joe W. Krider, 94, a resident of rural Churubusco in Allen County, passed away at 7:40 a. m. on Friday, December 3, 2010, at his residence in Eel River Township following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Krider was born on April 25, 1916 in Smith Township, south of Collins, a son of Ralph and Vida (Smith) Krider, and was a lifelong resident of this area.   On June 6, 1937 he was married in Eel River Township to Grace Chapman, and had lived at his current address since 1949.

In addition to being engaged in farming, he had previously worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne.  He retired in 1979 as a truck driver for Peter Eckrich Company in Fort Wayne after 20 years.

He was a member of the Good News Baptist Church in Churubusco.

The surviving relatives include his wife Grace, to whom he was married for over 73 years; four sons David R. (Elaine) Krider of Churubusco, William W. Krider of Fort Wayne, Stanley E. (Gaurdis) Krider of St. George, Utah, and Rev. Eldon L. (Margo) Krider of Mio, Mich; a sister Troas Phillips of Columbia City; a brother Phil R. (Ruth) Krider of South Whitley; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Max Krider and C. Jean Krider; an infant daughter Cheryl Krider; and two grandsons Kevin Krider and Neil Krider.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with his son Rev. Eldon L. Krider, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Monday from 4 to 8 p. m.

Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

Cameron Robert Amber: 1990 – 2010

Amber, Cameron_0001Cameron Robert Amber, 20, a resident of Churubusco, passed away at 6:35 p. m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010, from the results of a two vehicle accident on U. S. 33, south of Churubusco.

Cameron was born on February 5, 1990 in Columbia City, a son of Robert C. and Marna (Friskney) Amber, and was a lifelong resident of Churubusco.  He graduated from Churubusco High School in 2009, and was the school’s quarterback for its semi-state team in 2007.  He had served with the U. S. Air Force, coached Churubusco Youth Football, and enjoyed his diesel truck.

He had been employed at 80/20 in Columbia City since August.

The surviving relatives include his parents Bob and Marna Amber of Churubusco; two sisters Ashton (James Ford) Amber of Fort Wayne and Taylor Amber, a student at Huntington University; his brother Carlin Amber, at home; his paternal grandparents Don and Patty Amber of Churubusco; his maternal grandmother Marjorie Friskney of Albion; his fiancee Nicole Pippenger of Avilla; and a nephew Braylon McCoy.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Willis J. Friskney on August 1, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Monday, December 6, 2010, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church, with Pastors Corinne K. Boruff and Timothy Grable, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Monday morning.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to Churubusco Youth Football; or the trust for the child of Cameron and Nicole in care of Star Financial Bank.

Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.
