Herbert K. Sutton: 1924 – 2011

Sutton, Herb_0001Herbert K. Sutton, 86, a resident of rural Huntertown and widely acquainted DeKalb County farmer, passed away at 3:45 p. m. on Monday, June 27, 2011, at the family residence in Butler Township.  He had been in failing health for the past month.

Mr. Sutton was born in Fort Wayne on November 7, 1924, a son of Charles and Mary (Rupley) Sutton.  He spent his formative years in the Huntertown-LaOtto area and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1943.

On March 20, 1948 he was married in Churubusco to Mary E. Geiger.  He and his wife moved to their present farm home in DeKalb County in 1956 where he was engaged in farming all of his adult life, retiring in 1998.  He was a school bus driver for Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District for 35 years, served on the Butler Township Advisory Board for several years, and was an active supporter of DeKalb County 4-H.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Hicksville, Ohio, Loyal Order of Moose Arie 1301 in Auburn, and enjoyed square dancing and participating in tractor pulls.

The surviving relatives include his wife Mary, to whom he was married for over 63 years; a son Dennis (Suzanne) Sutton of LaOtto; three daughters Vickie (Richard) Nodine, Nancy (Mike) Chittenden, and Peggy (Marion) Tarlton, Jr., all of Garrett; a brother Dale (Arlene) Freeman of Huntertown; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ilene Fulk.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.  m. on Friday, July 1, 2011, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Thursday from 2 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Friday morning.

Interment will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery, south of Garrett.

Christopher J. Hardacre 1957 – 2011

Christopher J. Hardacre, 54, of Columbia City, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on June 20, 2011, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, after entering the hospital on Tuesday.

Mr. Hardacre was born March 31, 1957 a son of John Richard & Ruth E. (Miller) Hardacre, in Casper, Wyoming. He spent his child hood in Churubusco, moving to Columbia City just before the birth of his daughter Jessica.

The surviving relatives include his daughter Jessica Hardacre of Columbia City; his mother Ruth E.  Leitch of Columbia City; four sisters Ellen (Gary) Smith of Albion, Valeria (Jerry) Cheek of Auburn, Jeannette (Gary) Petelle of Churubusco, Vickie Leitch of Moore, Oklahoma; a brother Scott (Debbie) Leitch of Churubusco; a half-sister Nancy Snodgrass of Andrews; two half – brothers Robert (Kimberly) Hardacre of Huntington and Thomas Hardacre of Huntington; a special friend Gloria Bess of Columbia City; and his granddaughter Mataya Cody of Columbia City.

At the request of Mr. Hardacre, there will be no services or calling hours.

Kathleen “Katie” Swoverland: 1916 – 2011

Swoverland, Katie_0001Kathleen “Katie” Swoverland, 94, of Churubusco, passed away at 6:06 p.m. on June 13, 2011, at Heritage Park Nursing Home, after a long illness.

She was born to Clarence and Clara (Dodson) Carriger on August 30, 1916 in Churubusco, where she spent her formative years.

Following her graduation for Indianapolis Methodist College she spent her career working at several different hospitals as a Registered Nurse, her last being the Linvill Hospital in Columbia City, before retiring in 1966.

She married Donald F. Swoverland August 6, 1938. They owned Swoverland Shoe Store in Churubusco from 1949 – 1971. They then moved to Fort Myers Florida and started American Hardware and Bicycle from 1971 – 1984 which they owned and operated. She returned to the Churubusco area in 1984 following her retirement.

She enjoyed playing tennis in her leisure time.

Surviving relatives include her daughters Donita Harris and Saralyn Walls; a son D.G. (Jeri) Swoverland all of Fort Wayne; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and one great – great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Swoverland on April 7, 2002; a daughter Sondra Lee; a son Steve Swoverland and a brother Gene Carriger

Services will be held on Friday June 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco, with Rev. John Suciu, pastor of Wallen Baptist Church officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., or one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Allen County

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arthur R. Lamle: 1916 – 2011

Lamle, Arthur2_0001Arthur R. Lamle, 95, a resident of rural Fort Wayne and long-time Eel River Township farmer, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 1:05 a. m. at the Hamilton House in Fort Wayne where he had been residing for the past year due to declining health.

Mr. Lamle was born on February 8, 1916 in Eel River Township, a son of Robert and Caroline (Felger) Lamle.  He spent his formative years on the family farm there, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1933.

A lifelong resident of Eel River Township, he was engaged in farming in Allen County all of his life, retiring in 1993.

He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, and was also a member of the Lake Township Farm Bureau, the Oliver Tractor Club and the Corvair Club.

On March 22, 1955 he was married to Alice Longenecker.  She preceded him in death on April 24, 2000.

The surviving relatives include his son Ronald E. Lamle of Fort Wayne; and a sister Doris Peterson of Bluffton.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, 7914 W. Cook Road, with Pastor Ralph Easterhaus, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Monday from 4 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township Building Fund, 7914 West Cook Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana  46818

Larry Lieberenz 1944 – 2011

Larry Lieberenz, 66, of Kimmell, passed away at 1:10 a.m. on June 5, 2011, at Parkview Hospital.

Mr. Lieberenz was born to Joe & Gladis (Mower) Lieberenz on July 4, 1944 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He spent most of his formative years in Fort Wayne before moving to Cromwell. He settled in the Wolf Lake area in 1978 where he enjoyed living on Lake Gilbert’s shore.

Mr. Lieberenz is survived by his daughter Tina Lieberenz of Shipsipshewana; and two sons LarryLieberenz, Jr. and  Ricky Lieberenz.

He was preceded in death by his parents

There will be a memorial service at a later date.
