Stanley W. High, Sr., 80, a resident of Fort Wayne, passed away at 8:30 a. m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at his home. He had been in declining health since December.
Mr. High was born in LaGrange County on March 22, 1931, a son of Paul and Ella (Sams) High. He spent a portion of his formative years near Helmer, and was married in Churubusco on February 20, 1961 to Donna Angel.
The couple lived most of their married lives in Fort Wayne where he owned and operated High’s Trucking, retiring from there in 2009.
As a young man he was a race car driver, and in his leisure time enjoyed NASCAR, watching wrestling, and playing the harmonica. Most importantly he loved and cherished his home and family.
The surviving relatives include his wife Donna; seven children Nadine (John) Martin of Fort Wayne, Naola (Jon) Falk of Yoder, Stanley (Keli) High, Jr. of Fort Wayne, Rickey (Carolyn) High of LaOtto, Shelley (Jeffrey) Lee of Huntertown, and Andy High and Judy (Geoffrey) Goudy, both of Ashley; his sister Reah “Sis” (Vess) Long of Nottawa, Mich; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Dale High, Roy High, and Max High.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Worlie Newsome, Jr., officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Tuesday.
Interment will be in the Fairfield Center Cemetery, near Corunna.
