Louis C. Harmeyer: 1924 – 2011

Harmeyer, Louis 02Louis C. Harmeyer, 87, well-known Lake Township farmer in Allen County and more recently a resident of  Fort Wayne, passed away at 3:45 a. m. on Friday, October 7, 2011, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne following a brief illness.

Mr. Harmeyer was born on July 26, 1924 in Lake Township, a son of Louis C. and Anna (Thiele) Harmeyer.  He spent his formative years on the farm that had been in his family since 1879, and graduated from Arcola High School in 1942.

Harmeyer, Louis 03On March 20, 1948 he was married to Edna Kathryn Easterday.  A lifelong resident of Allen County, he was engaged in operating the family farm in Lake Township  until his retirement in 1994.  In addition, he served as a bus driver for Northwest Allen County Schools for 33 years.

He was a member of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, west of Fort Wayne, and was also a member of the Arcola Lions Club.

Mrs. Harmeyer preceded him in death on April 7, 1993.

His second marriage took place on June 17, 1995 to Dorothy L. (Holt) Duff.  She survives.

Also surviving are his children Darwin (Sheryl) Harmeyer, Barry (Diane) Harmeyer, and Elaine (Ron) Ahrens. all of Fort Wayne, Janet (Jeff) Doner of Indianapolis, Craig (Rhonda) Harmeyer of Fort Wayne, and Rosalie (Tom) Welch of Hinesburg, Vt; two step-children Tami Pierce of Avilla and Larry Duff of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers Carl Harmeyer and Fred Harmeyer.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Monday, October 10, 2011, at the Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6318W. California Rd., with Pastors William E. Mueller and Norman Aman, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2 to 6 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Monday afternoon.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to Worship for Shut-Ins.

James A. Caupp: 1936 – 2011

Caupp, 74, a former resident of Churubusco, passed away at 1:05 p. m. on Thursday, October 5, 2011 at the Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne, where he had resided for the past seven years.  Although he had been in declining health, he had only been seriously ill since Friday.

Mr. Caupp was born in Union City, Indiana on October 21, 1936, a son of Kenneth Lloyd and Ava (Frazier) Caupp.  He spent his formative years in Muncie and moved to Blue Lake in 1951.  He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1954, and as a young man served with the U. S. Army.

On November 1, 1958 he was married in Albion to M. Fay Wilson, and spent most of his adult life in Churubusco.  A former employee of G. I. Case in Churubusco, International Harvester in Fort Wayne, and Borg Warner in Auburn, he had been employed as a machinist at Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne for 28 years, retiring from there in 1999.

He was a member of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco, and since living at the Towne House Retirement Center, had been active as a volunteer there.

Mrs. Caupp preceded him in death on July 18, 1998.

The surviving relatives include his daughters Carolyn (Terry ) Byrd of Churubusco and Diana (Chad) Parent of Fort Wayne; two step-sisters Marsha Shappell of Holiday, Fla. and Sandy (Clifford “Dutch” ) Parks of Weatherford, Tx; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two infant children William Caupp and Becky Caupp; and by his sister Mary Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Sunday, October 9, 2011, in the chapel of the Towne House Retirement Community, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, with Chaplain Douglas Vogel, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Saturday from 2 to 6 p. m., or at the chapel one hour prior to the service Sunday afternoon.

Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

Stanley W. High, Sr: 1931 – 2011

High, Stanley_0001Stanley W. High, Sr., 80, a resident of Fort Wayne, passed away at 8:30 a. m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at his home.  He had been in declining health since December.

Mr. High was born in LaGrange County on March 22, 1931, a son of Paul and Ella (Sams) High.  He spent a portion of his formative years near Helmer, and was married in Churubusco on February 20, 1961 to Donna Angel.

The couple lived most of their married lives in Fort Wayne where he owned and operated High’s Trucking, retiring from there in 2009.

As a young man he was a race car driver, and in his leisure time enjoyed NASCAR, watching wrestling, and playing the harmonica.  Most importantly he loved and cherished his home and family.

The surviving relatives include his wife Donna; seven children Nadine (John) Martin of Fort Wayne, Naola (Jon) Falk of Yoder, Stanley (Keli) High, Jr. of Fort Wayne, Rickey (Carolyn) High of LaOtto, Shelley (Jeffrey) Lee of Huntertown, and Andy High and Judy (Geoffrey) Goudy, both of Ashley; his sister Reah “Sis” (Vess) Long of Nottawa, Mich; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Dale High, Roy High, and Max High.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Worlie Newsome, Jr., officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

Interment will be in the Fairfield Center Cemetery, near Corunna.
