Evelyn Juanita Combs: 1933 – 2012

Evelyn Juanita Combs, 78, a former resident of Garrett, passed away at 6:37 a. m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.  She had been hospitalized for the past six weeks, and had been taken to the hospital from Warsaw Meadows Care Center where she had been a resident for nearly two years.

Mrs. Combs was born on November 22, 1933 in Harriman, Tennessee, a daughter of Henry and Bertha (Cook) Hyde.

She spent most of her adult life in Garrett, where she had been employed as a cook at the Railroad Inn for 25 years, retiring from there in 2004.

Three husbands preceded her in death Floyd Cottrell, Doler Bevis, and Wilburn Combs.

The surviving relatives include her children Margaret Christlieb of Churubusco, Pat Rowe of Spencerville, Richard Cottrell of Auburn, Zelda Mayers of Woodburn, and Doler Otis “Dob” Bevis of Garrett; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by three children Bonnie Lou Cottrell, Mary Thomas, and Harold Cottrell; daughter-in-law Tammy Cottrell;  two grandsons Kristoffer Shultz and Michael Thomas; five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Michael Harris, pastor of Waynedale United Methodist Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 11:00 a. m. on Tuesday until the time of the service.

Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the family to assist with final expenses.

Helen S. Jetmore: 1910 – 2012

Helen S. Jetmore, 101, a resident of Avilla and widow of Charles Jetmore, passed away at 7:00 p. m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

Mrs. Jetmore was born on November 2, 1910 in Adams County near Berne, a daughter of Lewis Maynard and May (Dull) Sapp.  She and her husband had lived in various parts of the country during their married lives, and had lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a period where she retired from the credit department at J. C. Penney.

She had lived in this are since 1996.

Mr. Jetmore preceded her in death.

Among the surviving relatives are two nephews Ren Sapp of Elkhart and James Bowman of Fort Wayne; and two sisters-in-law Anna Jetmore of Huntertown and Lois Jetmore of Fort Wayne.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a. m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Cemetery near Arcola with Chaplain Tom Novy, officiating.    Interment will follow.

At the request of Mrs. Jetmore, there will be no calling hours.

Grace Akers: 1922 – 2012

Grace Akers, 89, a former resident of rural Churubusco in Noble County and widow of Donald G. Akers, passed away at 2:55 a. m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Renaissance Village Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for nearly two years.

Mrs. Akers was born in Van Wert, Ohio on September 4, 1922, a daughter of Homer and Lucy D. (Ingmire) Murphy.  She spent her formative years in Ohio, and graduated from Union Township High School near Convoy.

Upon completing her education she was employed at Sears Roebuck & Company in Fort Wayne, and was married in Fort Wayne on August 30, 1942 to Donald G. Akers.  Following their marriage the couple lived in Fort Wayne for a period, but spent most of their married lives in Churubusco and in Green Township.

A homemaker during her adult life, she attended the Albion Wesleyan Church.  In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, listening to music by the Bill Gaither Trio, and most especially loved and cherished her grandchildren.

Mr. Akers preceded her in death on April 26, 1994.

Among the surviving relatives are her children Thomas D. Akers and Donna (Darrell) Patton, both of Fort Wayne, Mary Jo (Edwin) McEowen of Columbia City, and D. Michael (Pam) Akers of Churubusco; a sister Edna (Eugene) Akers of Churubusco; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters Inez Martin, Bernice McMullin, and Ruth Gaunt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Paul Boss, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Thursday morning.

Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

Nathan Ronald Castor: 1984 – 2012

Castor, Nathan_2jpgNathan Ronald Castor, 27, formerly of Kendallville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

Nathan was born on March 9, 1984 in Bristol, Pennsylvania, a son of Ronald C. and Connie (Fulk) Castor, and had lived in Kendallville the majority of his lifetime.  He attended the Indiana Academy of Math, Science and Humanities at Ball State University during his junior year of high school, graduated from East Noble High School in 2002, and also attended Indiana-Purdue University in Fort Wayne.

He was an expert in the knowledge and care of exotic fish, and had built his own fresh water and salt water aquarium.  He was also gifted in computer science, and was an expert in  building personalized computers.

The surviving relatives include his parents Ronald and Connie Castor of Kendallville; a sister  Miranda (Matthew) Heitz of Clearwater, Fla; a nephew Ezra Heitz; aunts and uncles Joanne (Gus) Etersque, Vincent (Collette) Castor, Maria (Bob) Faight, Kathleen (Scott) Thompson, Annette (Kevin Brannigan) Castor, Christopher (Christine) Makai, Joy (Tom) Rose, and Steve (Teri) Fulk; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Thomas R. Clothier, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12 noon until 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning.

Interment will be in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

Angelo L. Marcano: 1963 – 2012

Marcano, Angelo 2_0001Angelo L. Marcano, 48, a resident of Fort Wayne, passed away at 5:22 a. m. on Sunday, January 8, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.  He had been in declining health for the past five years.

Mr. Marcano was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts on December 27, 1963, a son of Carlos and Felicita (Cruz) Marcano, and spent his formative years there.  He lived in Hawaii for a period before moving to Fort Wayne in 1991.

Previously employed as a tile installer at Contract Interiors in Fort Wayne, he had owned and operated Marcano’s Tile Works in Fort Wayne for the past four years.  Most importantly in his life he was a loving husband, father, son, and brother.

On October 15, 2006 he was married in Fort Wayne to Rebecca “Becky” Marcano.  She survives.

The other surviving relatives include his son Angel Marcano, Jr. of Fort Wayne; two step-sons Bill Wetzel and Andy Wetzel, both of Fort Wayne; his parents Carlos and Felicita Marcano of Southbridge, Mass; two brothers Carlos (Gabrielle) Marcano and Edwin (Danita) Marcano, both of Fort Wayne; his sister Wilda Marcano of Southbridge, Mass; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Friday, January 13, 2012, in the Northside Missionary Church, 736 Lillian Avenue, Fort Wayne.  Pastor Pat Ryan will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church after 11 a. m. on Friday until the time of the service.

In addition to the above services.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a. m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012, Father Peter Joyce, Celebrant in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church under the Blessed John Paul II Parish, 247 Hamilton St. Southbridge, MA 01550.
