Helen B. Fulk 1926 – 2012

Fulk, Helen_0001Helen B. Fulk , 85, of Wolf Lake, passed away at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 27, 2012 at her residence in Wolf Lake.

Mrs. Fulk was born on November 10, 1926 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of John and Edith (Campbell) Listenberger. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne.

In April of 1974 she was married in Ligonier to Jesse Fulk. She had moved from Fort Wayne to the Wolf Lake area where she had lived since 1942 .

Mrs. Fulk was a member of Wolf Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars # 4717 Auxiliary. She enjoyed puzzles and tending her many flower gardens.

Her spouse preceded her in death in 1986.

The surviving relatives include Companion – Herbert Brooks of Wolf Lake; two daughters Cookie (Dennis) Coil of Albion and Georgia (Randy) Elijah of Albion; three sons John (Margaret) Steinbacher of Fort Wayne, Charles Steinbacher of Ligonier, and Harvey Steinbacher of Churubusco; step-son Dick Fulk; step- daughter Bonnie Meyers; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her five brothers; four sisters; a step-son Tom Fulk and a step-daughter Jill Fulk.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, with Rev. Corinne K. Boruff-Stucker, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, or one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Thorn Cemetery, Ormas.

Marjorie H. Roe: 1913 – 2012

Roe, Marjorie_0001Marjorie H. Roe, 98, a former resident of Ligonier and more recently of Albion, passed away at 7:15 am on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville following a short illness. She was the widow of former state representative and prominent Perry Township farmer Elbert O. Roe.

Mrs. Roe was born on November 22, 1913 in Ligonier, a daughter of Guy and Mildred (Tucker) Calbeck.  She spent her formative years in Ligonier, and graduated from Ligoner High School in 1931 .

On April 14, 1934 she was married in Goshen to Elbert O. Roe, and lived most of her adult life in the Ligonier area.

As a young woman she assisted her parents in the operation of Calbeck Hardware in Ligonier.  She was a member of the Richville United Methodist Church, west of Ligonier, and its United Methodist Women.  In addition she was a former member of the Perry Township Home Demonstration Club and the Ladies Democratic Club.  She had served as the state auxiliary president of the Soil and Water Conservation District, and was a Perry Township 4-H leader for ten years. .

Mr. Roe preceded her in death on October 25, 1994.

The surviving relatives include her daughters Janet Brumbaugh of Albion and Jayne (Larry) Barron of Houston, Texas.  There are 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Stephen Roe on April 3, 1986. Also deceased are two brothers Marion Calbeck and Everett Calbeck; a sister Odeyne Blythe; and a son-in-law Loren “Jake” Brumbaugh.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at Richville United Methodist Church, 11009 County Road 50, Ligonier.  Pastors Jean Ness and Carol Knox will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to 8 p. m. on Tuesday, or one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning.

Interment will be in the family plot at the Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier.

Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia A. Browning 1927 – 2012

Browning, VirginiaVirginia A. Browning , 84, of Fort Wayne, passed away at 9:25 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, After a long illness more serious in the last week. 

Mrs. Browning was born on August 4, 1927 in Smith Twp., Whitley County, a daughter of Adam and Ollie (Truelove) Ragan.  She spent her formative years in Churubusco, and graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne. 

 On January 24, 1946 she was married to Leo E. Browning, and moved to Eel River Twp, Allen County where she had lived since 1954.

Mrs. Browning liked painting and crafting. She loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great – grandchildren.

Her spouse preceded her in death on June 6, 1992.

The surviving relatives include two sons Charles (Mary Beth) Browning of Churubusco and Dean (Phyllis) Browning of Vancouver, WA; two daughters Pamela (Thomas) Murphy of Dewy Rose, GA and Renee (Robert) Lemish of Avilla; 10 grandchildren and 21 great – grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by a sister Betty Winchester and brother Leonard  Ragan. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, with Father Danney Pinto, officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, or one hour prior to the service. 

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Allen County.

Dale E. Geiger 1933 – 2012

Geiger, Dale_0001Dale E. Geiger, 78, of rural Columbia City, passed away at 4:34 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fl., where he spent his winters. 

Mr. Geiger was born on December 11, 1933 in Columbia City, a son of Clifton J. “Jake” and Irene (Krider) Geiger.  He spent his formative years in rural Columbia City all within a mile of his current residence.

He lived at his current residence since 1965 and had been a dairy farmer for 17 years. He was also a grain farmer until he retired at the age of 70.  

On January 18, 1958 he was married in Decatur to Janice Irene Owen.     

Mr. Geiger was a member of Sugar Grove Church of God, Churubusco, and the FFA of Whitley County. He enjoyed fixing old John Deer Tractors in his older years. He was the Bicycle Man of Florida. He would buy and fix old bikes to resell.

His spouse preceded him in death on August 31, 2009.

The surviving relatives include a daughter Debra (Phil) Gebert; a son Dalen (April) Geiger both of Columbia City; three sisters Helen Blanchard of North Manchester, Mary Sutton of Huntertown, and Shirley Rugg of Lagrange; a brother Charles “Chic” Geiger of Churubusco; three granddaughters Brelle (Brandon) Bridge, Bralen Gebert, and Brittany Geiger; a grandson Colton Geiger; a great-granddaughter Ella Bridge. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents Clifton J. “Jake” and Irene (Krider) Geiger; a brother Guy Geiger in 1970; three brother-in-laws Robert Blanchard, Herb Sutton, and Jack Rugg; a sister-in-law Dottie Geiger. 

 Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Sugar Grove Church of God, with Pastor Timothy Grable, officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, or one hour prior to the service.  

Burial will be in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.

Pauline McBride 1923 – 2012

Pauline   McBride, 89, of rural Churubusco, passed away at 7:10 am on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at her residence in Eel River Township. 

Mrs. McBride was born on February 14, 1923 in Churubusco, a daughter of Bert J. and Edith (Bice) Grim.  She spent her formative years in Huntertown, and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1941. 

On June 7, 1941 she was married in Angola to Ralph R. McBride, and moved from Huntertown to Churubusco where she had lived since 1949.

She was a homemaker. She loved her dogs, watching birds, and watching the flowers grow.

Her husband preceded her in death on November 13, 1992.

The surviving relatives include two sons Rodger (Jeanette) McBride of Huntertown and Steven C. McBride of Churubusco; three daughters Gayle Ross of Savannah, GA, Kathy (Dan) Nichter of Columbia City, and Marilyn (Rusty) Reed of Churubusco; nine grandchildren and one step grandchild; 16 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her two sisters Grace Surface and Blanche Kumfer Kurtz. 

 Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Van Horn, officiating. 

 The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, or one hour prior to the service. 

 Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, northwest of Huntertown.
