Roxie L. Gloyd: 1949 – 2012

Gloyd, RoxieRoxie L. Gloyd, 62, a resident of rural Churubusco in Allen County and wife of Dennis R. Gloyd, passed away after a long battle with cancer at 5:31 p. m. on Good Friday, April  6, 2012, at her home in Eel River Township with her family and friends by her side.   She had been in declining health since July.

Mrs. Gloyd was born in Wolf Lake on June 14, 1949, a daughter of Max G. and Lenora M. (Hawk) Gross.  As a young girl she lived in Noble County, and moved to Eel River Township with her parents in 1963.  She graduated from Huntertown High School in 1967.

On September 2, 1967 she was married in Churubusco to Dennis R. Gloyd, and spent her adult life in Allen County.

She worked as a server for American Legion Post 82 and later at Post 499, both in Fort Wayne, and was a member of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 Ladies Auxiliary in Churubusco.

Roxie had a natural radiant personality that attracted people to her.  She dearly loved and cherished her family, and was known for helping to keep them in balance.

The surviving relatives include her husband Dennis; her children Kimberly (Jimmy) Walker and Angela (Andrew) Sherman, both of Churubusco, and Alisa (Jason) Hess and Jessica (Matthew) Schnellbach, both of Fort Wayne; a brother Jerrold “Jake” (Debbie) Gross of Churubusco; a sister Melanie “Sue” (Tom) Gilbert of Churubusco; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Friday, April 13, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastors Timothy Grable and David Biberstein, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p. m., Thursday from 2 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Friday morning.
