Betty J. Boggs: 1929 – 2012

Boggs, BettyBetty J. Boggs, 83, a resident of rural Churubusco in Whitley County and wife of Ray A. Boggs, passed away at 8:40 p. m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the family residence in Smith Township following an extended illness.

Mrs. Boggs was born in Smith Township on May 14, 1929, the daughter of Orlando and Lela N. (Shlater) Geiger.  She spent her formative years in the Churubusco-area and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1947.

On June 19, 1948 she was married in Churubusco to Ray A. Boggs.  A homemaker, she lived all of her life in the Churubusco-area and had lived at her present home in Noble County since 1965.  She attended the Wallen Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, enjoyed gardening, and had a special calling to visit senior citizens.  Most especially, she loved and cherished her family.

The surviving relatives include her husband Ray, to whom she was married for over 64 years; her children Vickie (Ed) Tyler of Niceville, Fla., Mark (Lisa) Boggs of Churubusco, Mala (Jeff) Rutledge of Auburndale, Fla., and Deena (Arthur) Sloffer of Decatur; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert C. L. Geiger on November 11, 1998; and by a grandson Jordan D. Sloffer on September 21, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, in the Merriam Christian Chapel, 3985 South U. S. 33, with Pastor John Suciu, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 2 to 6 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

James D. Campbell: 1940 – 2012

Campbell, James_0001James D. Campbell, 72, a resident of Williams Lake near Albion, passed away at 5:50 p. m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at his residence..  He had been in failing health for the past year.

Mr. Campbell was born on June 3, 1940 in Huntington, a son of Warren and Mary (Schockome) Campbell.  He moved to Fort Wayne as a boy and graduated from Central High School in 1958.  As a young man he served with the U. S. Marine Corps, and following his military discharge returned to Fort Wayne.  He had resided at Williams Lake since 1994.

Employed as a mechanic at Fox & Fox Frame Service, Inc. in Fort Wayne for over 35 years, he retired from there in 2001.

The surviving relatives include his wife Peggy (Frauhiger) Campbell; two sons Warren (Mary) Campbell of Fort Wayne and James C. Campbell of Arizona; a daughter Karen Pridgen of Fort Wayne; three step-daughters Audine (Jim) Bucklew of Illinois, Tanya (Ron) Grandas of Florida, and Cynthia (Jeff) Richards of Kendallville; a step-son William (Tonya) Ruggles of Anderson; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Kathy Campbell; his brother Joseph Campbell; two half -brothers Arthur Teusch and Theodore Schockome; a half-sister Ellen Rowan; and a step-daughter Belinda Oswald.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Lane Burgland, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning.

Interment with military graveside rites will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

Kathy Marie Gregory: 1965 – 2012

Gregory, Kathy_0001Kathy Marie Gregory, 47, a resident of rural Columbia City and a native of Churubusco, passed away at 8:57 p. m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at her home.

Ms. Gregory was born on June 14, 1965 in Goshen, a daughter of Norman G. and Linda (Alfrey) Gregory, and spent her formative years in Churubusco.

The surviving relatives include her two children Brandon (Stephanie) Craig of Columbia City and Crystina Pickelheimer of North Carolina; her parents Norman and Linda Gregory of Churubusco; a brother Mark (Angie) Gregory of Auburn; two sisters Lisa (Dan) Peters and Mary Gregory, both of Churubusco; and six grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.  Interment will follow. At the request of the family, there will be no public calling hours.

Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.

Oneita J. Young: 1943 – 2012

Oneita J. Young, 68, a resident of rural Churubusco and wife of David L. Young, passed away at 2:15 a. m. on Monday, June 18, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Young was born in Wolf Lake on December 1, 1943, a daughter of Archie A. and Arrena (Leitch) Weidman, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1962.

On October 13, 1962 she was married to David L. Young, and spent all of her life in the Churubusco-area.  She was a homemaker, and had also worked at Fibre Form in Columbia City.

The surviving relatives include her husband David; a daughter Leigha (Aaron) Juillerat of Cincinnati; her mother Arrena Diffendarfer of Fort Wayne; a brother Monte (Peggy) Diffendarfer of Merriam; a sister Valeria (Jerry) Cheek of Auburn; a step-brother Rex (Jackie) Diffendarfer of French Lick; a step-sister Phyllis (Lee) Lambert of Hollister, Fla; and four grandchildren Morgan Juillerat, Macaleb Juillerat, Mason Juillerat, and Madison Juillerat.

She was preceded in death by her father on December 17, 1960; her step-father Floyd Diffendarfer on March 21, 2001; and by a step-sister Betty J. Zeedyk on April 29, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Lane Burgland, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 11 a. m. on Wednesday until the hour of the service.

Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

Jon Lynn Gaff: 1957 – 2012

Jon Lynn Gaff, 54, of Columbia City and formerly of Green Township in Noble County, passed away at 6:10 a. m. on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Gaff was born on August 16, 1957 in Columbia City, a son of J. Lincoln and Juanita LaVon (Decker) Gaff. He spent his formative years in Churubusco, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1975.

The surviving relatives include mother, Juanita LaVon Gaff of Columbia City; a daughter Jackie Gaff of Fort Wayne; a son, Joseph Gaff of the united States Army; two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother J.L. Gaff; a nephew Joseph Gaff.

Funeral services will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home on Saturday at 1:00 p. m., with Pastor Brad Fredrickson, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
