Margaret A. Geiger: 1927 – 2012

Geiger, MargretMargaret A. Geiger, 84, a resident of Churubusco and widow of M. Duane Geiger, passed away at 6:00 a. m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at the residence of her daughter, where she had resided for the past five years.

Mrs. Geiger was born in Churubusco on December 22, 1927, a daughter of Joseph W. and Gertrude (Campbell) Overly.  As a girl growing up she lived south of Churubusco and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1946.

On November 29, 1947 she was married in Albion to M. Duane Geiger.  The couple spent much of their married lives on a farm in Green Township in Noble County, until moving into Churubusco in 1986 following Mr. Geiger’s retirement.

A homemaker, she had been a member of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 Ladies Auxiliary in Churubusco for the past 36 years.

Mr. Geiger preceded her in death on October 16, 1992.

The surviving relatives include her children Linda L. (Stephen) Epperson of Fort Wayne, and Gary (Pam) Geiger, Sharon (Dennis) Born, and Randy (Mui) Geiger, all of Churubusco; a sister Mary Edna Klausing of Yuma, Ariz; nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters Hettie Reed and Bertha May Guthrie; and by two brothers Joseph W. Overly, Jr. and Charles Overly.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, August 20, 2012, at the Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco, with Chaplain Karen Kosberg, officiating.   Interment will follow.

Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.  At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

Arthur Adam Baron 1956 – 2012

Baron, ArthurArthur Adam Baron, 56, of Columbia City, passed away at 9:40 am on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Baron was born on January 19, 1956 in Fort Wayne, a son of Earland and Marjorie (Collins) Baron.

On July 1, 1977 he was married in Fort Wayne to Rebecca Imbody, and moved from Fort Wayne to Columbia City where he had lived since 1995.

He was employed at Addis Campground, where he worked as a Grounds Keeper

The surviving relatives include wife, Rebecca Baron of Columbia City; a son, Adam (Leslie) Baron of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Amy (Jason) Childers of Fort Wayne; a granddaughter, Claudia Childers; a grandson, Carson Childers; four brothers, Lyle (Bette) Baron of Churubusco, Chuck (Connie) Baron of New Haven, Kenneth (Laura) Baron of Fort Wayne, and Paul (Kristy) Baron of Fort Wayne; five sisters, Irene Stanley of Columbia City, Gladys (Mike) Stuart of Garrett, Barb (Orin) Viegel of Hurricane, UT, Martha Sharp of Fort Wayne, and Judy (Jackie) Terry of Lisbon.

He was preceded in death by his parents Earland and Marjorie (Collins) Baron

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, with Pastor Stephen Johnson, officiating.

The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, or one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Blue River Cemetery, Whitley County.

S. Charles “Chuck” Morgan 1939 – 2012

Morgan, Chuck_0001S. Charles “Chuck” Morgan , 73, of Churubusco, passed away at 7:29 am on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Morgan was born on August 3, 1939 in Baltimore , MD., a son of S. C. and Genevieve (Bethke) Morgan.

On October 14, 1983 he was married at Green Center Church to Judy Bayless, and moved from Fort Wayne to Churubusco in 1977.

He was the owner of Morgan Refrigeration, and retired in 1998 after 18 years.

Mr. Morgan was a member of 3 Rivers Masonic Temple and York Rite. He loved to fish, garden, and woodworking

The surviving relatives include wife, Judy Morgan of Churubusco; a son, William T. (Julie) Morgan of Pikesville, MD; a daughter, Catherine Ann Morgan of Pikesville, MD; a step-daughter, Bonnie L. (Robert) Jordan of Muncie; a step – son, Patrick M. McCorkle of Leesburg, IN; a brother, William P. Morgan of New Port Richie, FL; a sister, Mary (Robert) Long of Cummings, GA; a brother – in- law, Tom (Kelly) Bayless of Leesburg, FL; and a grandson Blade M. McCorkle

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Richard Morgan

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, with Pastor Timothy Grable, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, or one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Allen County.

Robert C. Childs: 1918 – 2012

Robert C. Childs, 93, formerly of Fairmount, passed away at 8:45 p. m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Heritage Pointe in Warren following an extended illness.

Mr. Childs was born in Matthews on August 16, 1918, a son of Oliver Morton and Junietta Ruth (Morris) Childs. He spent his formative years in Matthews, attended Matthews School, and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1936.

On December 24, 1937 he was married to Anna L. Moorman, and lived in Matthews following his marriage. He served with the U. S. Navy during World War II, and after his military discharge moved to a farm northwest of Matthews in 1946. He was engaged in farming in Jefferson Township for many years, and moved to Fairmount in 1963.

In addition to farming, he was employed as the manager of the Emge Stock Yards in Fairmount for 26 years, retiring in 1981. He and his first wife were summer residents of Epworth Forest in North Webster from 1980 to 1994, and enjoyed wintering in Bradenton, Florida.

He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Matthews, attended the Fairmount Friends Meeting House, and had been an active member of the Fairmount Lions Club for many years.

Mrs. Childs preceded him in death on July 6, 1998. On September 1, 1999 he was married to Ruby (Everitt) McClarnon, and moved to Warren following his second marriage, continuing to winter in Bradenton, Florida.

The surviving relatives include his second wife Ruby; four children Tom J. (Nancy) Childs and Linda (Gary) Bragg, both of Muncie, Mark (Sue Ellen) Childs of Hagerstown, and Jeffrey J. (Connie) Childs of Barrington, Ill; three step-children Ronald McClarnon of Indianapolis, Diane Nei of Huntington, and Jay McClarnon of Bourbon; a daughter-in-law Rosemary Childs of Bethlehem, Penn; a sister Illon Freese of Hartford City; 11 grandchildren Lori (Steve) Orander, Angela St. John, Rob (Rena) Childs, Michelle Healy, James (Genana) Bragg, Jay (Julianne) Bragg, Cory (Kelly) Childs, Kevin (Jamie Geer) Childs, Emily Childs, Bret Sears, and Chris Childs; 12 step-grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son Ronald D. Childs in 2004; five brothers Earl O. W. Childs, Herman L. Childs, O. Morris Childs, LD Childs, and Charles E. Childs; and by four sisters Neva Childs, Nina Childs, Delight Gadbury, and Elizabeth Losh.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the Armes-Hunt Funeral Home in Fairmount, with Pastor Jackie Michaelson, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Thursday morning.

Interment with military graveside rites will be in the Matthews Cemetery.

Genevieve A. Lehman: 1921 – 2012

CIMG0003Genevieve Anne (Warner) Lehman, 90, a former resident of Topeka and widow of Dr. Kenneth M. Lehman,  died at 7:05 a. m. on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at her home in Indianapolis.

A long-time resident of Topeka, she was born to DeMain and Hazel (Keim) Warner in Goshen on October 18, 1921, and graduated from Goshen High School in 1938.  “Gen” graduated from Goshen College in 1942 with a B. A. and taught Latin for several years at Wakarusa, Topeka, and Elkhart Memorial High Schools.  She married Kenneth M. Lehman, M. D., on April 25, 1943, in Goshen, and also worked in his medical office in Topeka.

A member of the Topeka United Methodist Church, she was the founder of the Candle Choir, and served as its church organist, a Sunday School teacher, and was a maker of many banners for the liturgical year.  In recent years, she attended Maple Hill United Methodist Church in Wanamaker.

In 1980 she became the first female member of the LaGrange County Council.  She and “Doc” donated the land for Maplewood Nature Center in LaGrange County, and were active members of the Audubon Society.  Gen was a life member of the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts, and a member of the Topeka Book Club until it disbanded.  She wrote articles that were published in “Quilters” magazine and in the Fellowship “Worship Arts” magazine.  She was an expert quilter, avid reader, and adventurous traveler.

Dr. Lehman preceded her in death on June 24, 2002.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gen was preceded in death by her step-mother, Vida Reynolds Warner; brothers, Gail E. Warner and Indiana State Representative Philip T. Warner; and beloved neighbor, Besse Oesch.

She is survived by four daughters  Anne (Dan) Lind of Goshen; Rebecca Russell of Indianapolis, Katharine (Charlie) Walker of West Lafayette, Lucinda Lehman of Indianapolis; housemates Allen McCormack and Donald Stikeleather; five grandchildren Dirk (Tracy) Lind, Anjali (Domingos Robinson) Lind, Nathaniel Russell, Becky (Ron Adams) Troyer, and Rachel Troyer; two step-grandchildren Sarah (Craig) McClory and  Charlie (Hitomi Matarese) Walker; six great-grandchildren Seth, Jasmine, and Maya Lind, Rosalie Adams, and  Memoria and Azia Matters; and two step-great-grandchildren  Alexander and Ella McClory; three nieces and a nephew.

Services will be held at 2 p. m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, in the Topeka United Methodist Church with Revs. Tamra Gerber and James Gentry, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church after 11 a. m. on Wednesday until the time of the service.

Interment of her cremains will be in the Eden Cemetery, Topeka.
