Owners Greg & Jeanine Childs
Greg and Jeanine Childs care about people and their needs, and have dedicated their lives to the service of others. They have been entrusted with the high privilege of directing the day-to-day operations of the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home since January 1, 1990. And although they own and operate the firm, they have always felt like the Sheets & Childs institution belongs more to the tri-county community than to them.
C. Gregory Childs is a native of Delaware County, and grew up in the rural community of Gaston, where his parents owned and operated a lumber and hardware company that was founded by his maternal grandfather in 1939. He graduated from Wes-Del High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Taylor University in Upland, and did additional graduate study in music at Ball State University. While he was a university student, he worked part-time for a local funeral home, and graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1975. He worked for eleven years as an embalmer and funeral director for two mortuaries in central Indiana, before moving to Churubusco and becoming associated with Sheets Funeral Home on June 1, 1986.
In addition to his business endeavors, Greg is a member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church, where he also serves as the organist and delagate to the United Methodist North Indiana Conference. He is a trustee of the Churubusco Public Library, past president and board of directors member of the Churubusco Chamber of Commerce and Churubusco Lions Club, and serves as a consultant for the Eel River Cemetery Association. Music is his avocation, and he is a member of the Fort Wayne Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, sings with the Fort Wayne Bach Collegium, and is past president of the Epworth Forest Choir School.
Jeanine Childs grew up in a United Methodist parsonage, and spent her formative years in central Indiana. She graduated from Elwood High School, and received her bachelor and master’s degrees from Ball State University. She is a licensed mental health counselor, did extensive graduate study at the Adler Institute of Psychology in Chicago, earned a certificate in biblical studies from the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, and holds a Ph.D in psychology from the Institute Of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, California. In addition to her involvement at the funeral home and in church and community affairs, Dr. Childs currently teaches psychology at Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne.
Greg and Jeanine have been blessed with three sons. Drew teaches vocal music at Decatur Central High School in Indianapolis, where he and his wife Becca reside. Perry is a senior at Anderson University, where he excels in cross country and track, and is active in the university’s “Neighbors” outreach ministry. He is working to complete a B. A. in business administration. Joel recently graduated from Anderson University with a B. A. in information systems, and is employed in the information technology department of the Huntington County School Corporation.
