Betty Jo “B. J.” (Dazey) Thiel 1951-2012
Betty Jo “B. J.” (Dazey) Thiel, 60, a resident of Fort Wayne and native of Wolf Lake, passed away at 7:15 p. m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at her home. She had been in declining health since December.
Mrs. Thiel was born in Wolf Lake on September 30, 1951, a daughter of James C. “J. C.” and Mary (Moeller) Dazey, and spent her formative years there. She graduated from Central Noble High School in 1969, and from the Parkview School of Nursing in 1971. She was formerly employed at Parkview Hospital for 25 years, and for the past ten years worked as a nurse for Parkview Home Health & Hospice as well as EMSI.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her life was marked by selflessness, sacrificial giving, and love for humankind. Her faith was stronger than death, and her life brought glory to God in everything that she did.
On October 13, 1979 she was married in Fort Wayne to Richard L. “Rick” Thiel. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2008.
She will be sadly missed by her devoted daughter Erin E. (Rob) Niman of Fort Wayne; a step-son Eric Thiel of Kingman, Ariz; two sisters Sister Cheri Dazey of Hammond and Sandi (Steve) Lemish of Albion; four brothers James C. (Rhae) Dazey II of Kendallville, Terry (Margaux) Dazey of Albion, Chuck (Sandy) Dazey of Wolf Lake, and Ron (Angie) Dazey of Albion; and her beloved grandchildren Robbie P. Niman, Jr., Wesley A. Niman, Parker L. Niman, Braylon J. Niman, and Lucas J. Niman.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Monday at Pathway Community Church, 11910 Shearwater Run, Fort Wayne. Rob Niman and Chaplain Karen Kosberg will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 1 to 6 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

Betty was a beautiful person who was very loving and humble. She was truly a light for our God. I can only imagine the look on her face when she placed all the crowns she received here on earth at the feet of Jesus the Saviour of the world. Betty was an amazing and wonderful lady who truly loved her family. We became friends during her illness and even though it was for a short time, I will always be thankful to the Lord for bringing her into my life. Rest in peace my dear friend, you will be greatly missed.

I worked with Betty at EMSI and she was always so delightful and a wonderful nurse. She was very giving and always made sure that all of her work was done correctly. Betty had very beautiful handwriting. She will be greatly missed.

Dear Dazey Kids,
How very blessed to have all of you in my life. We had wonderful times together. Betty was one of the nicest people. She was the “little sister” who always wanted to tag along. Betty has earned her heavenly reward by her total commitment of faith and her kindness here on earth. Betty Jo was one of the first Wolf Lake classmates I got the pleasure of knowing from the first day that our classes consolidated. She always had a smile that brightened my day! From the beginning, all through school, she was a true friend and had an amazing attitude about life. The life she led did and will continue to leave a happy and loving impression on us – all through our lives. Thank you Betty Jo for those special memories.

Our God has another Angel.I went to school with Betty.She was such a nice person.Loved her sense of humor.Lost contact with her.Then we saw her a few yrs. back. when she was having a garage sale with relatives.It was so fun to catch up on our lives.Praying for her family.May your memories bring you some comfort.GOD Bless.Sherri

BJ, alias PIA1, I think of you every day and smile. You always had a smile on your face and a hug for me whenever we saw each other. I am so sorry you won’t get to watch your grand babies grow here on earth. You have a better view from heaven. I left a voice mail on your cellphone when I saw the last report; hope you heard it. Erin, PIA2, and family I can only imagine the hole in your hearts. I will miss her, too.

BJ was a wonderful friend for many years!Her love for God,her family and friends ran deep. She was an incredible nurse.She always put others before herself,and even as she approached her own death,she was concerned about the comfort of those around her.I know this firsthand,as I spent time with her a week before she left us.She wanted to make sure that “I” got enough to eat,that “I” was warm enough,that “I” was comfortable.That is how she lived her life—caring for others.BJ was one of the most dedicated,honest,loyal,hard-working,Godly,kind hearted people I have ever known.I will miss her more than words can ever say.

“GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN” as the soldier motto says. And, what a warrior she was. She persevered through the rough times, smiled at the good times, and always delivered the BJ graciousness to family, friends, and patients alike. Job well done BJ. You fought the good fight. B.J.We loved you so much.Such a dear friend to us…You came by our home and told us you were “Not going to make it”I worked with you for 25 years in Parkview ICU.You have been there for us. when we lost our twin daughter.We feel honored to know you.Such a Christian Warrior you are…Just as the Apostle Paul said..My departure is at hand. Erin, we are all so sad to hear of the passing of your Mom. We were neighbors in Sunnybrook for fifteen years and we hold many happy memories of you and your parents. BJ was such an amazing person. I had the pleasure to work with her in ICU. She was always kind, caring and thoughtful to her patients and friends. Erin, I was out of town during BJ’s funeral, and I send you and your family my sympathy.
