Carolyn J. Wright: 1930 – 2008
Carolyn J. Wright, 77, a resident of Churubusco and wife of retired Churubusco banker Garold F. “Gary” Wright, died at 10:40 p. m. Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the family residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Wright was born on August 25, 1930 in South Bend, a daughter of Charles Dewey and Ella May (Tuley) Estep. She spent her formative years in South Bend and graduated from John Adams High School in 1948.
Her marriage took place in South bend on November 9, 1952 to Garold F. “Gary” Wright. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in South Bend, and as a young woman she worked as a teller at First Bank & Trust. In 1963 the family moved to Churubusco, and she had worked for a period at Watson’s Greenhouse in Churubusco and as a librarian assistant at the Churubusco Public Library.
A member of the Churubusco United Methodist Church, she was a member of its United Methodist Women’s Grace Circle, and was named the United Methodist Women’s “Woman of the Year” in 1997. She was also a former member of the Churubusco Literary Club, and the Churubusco Public Library Board of Trustees. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, flowers, travel, golf, skiing, and had enjoyed wintering in Arizona since 1990. Most importantly, she loved and enjoyed her family.
The surviving relatives include her husband Gary; her children Bruce (Janice) Wright and Lori (Kurt) Uhen, both of Fort Wayne; two sisters Janet (Kenneth) Hall of Michigan City, and Nancy (Elmer) Vogelsang of Melrose, Fla; two brothers Donald (Frances) Estep of LaPorte, and Ronald (Claudia) Estep of Corpus Christi, TX; and two grandchildren John Wright and Sarah Wright.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Jane Currey and Priscilla Alexander.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday, February 27, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church with Rev. Christine Newman-Jacobs, officiating.
The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
The family requests memorials be donated to Churubusco Public Library, Churubusco United Methodist Church, or Odyssey Health Care Foundation.

Gary & Family,
We are so sorry at Carolyn’s passing but know that she is in a better place and free of pain. Dave and I will remember all of the good times we had together, traveling, cards, games, and laughter. But you could never teach us to play Euchre, we’re just too slow. We are so glad that we were able to spend the time with you both last summer, it means a lot to us. Our hearts go out to your whole family. We will be in touch when things settle down for you, Gary.

After so much pain, your mother is finally realizing the ultimate happiness in heaven with our Almighty God. I know we have spoken of this many times, in the past, about when your mom would finally be free of the suffering. I hope YOU may now also feel the peace of knowing she is in a better place. Gary and Family,
Just know that you are and have been on our minds & in my prayers almost constantly since this recent ordeal began. It is so difficult to think of life without Carolyn. She was the most special person to us. Many times in the last 3 years, she had just the perfect words to help us through our anxiety and concern for our Laurie and finally the acceptance that Laurie was in a better place with her Lord. Laurie and Carolyn were always asking me about each other. I wonder if they are up there comparing notes now. Love Nyla & Dean

Gary and family, You are remembered before our Savior and His love for you all will strengthen and support you. We met several years ago through Gladys Nimmer and Pat McQuaid. Betty and I cared for Gladys. I remember Carolyn’s upbeat and friendly attitude. It was like sunshine came into the room!

Gary and family,
I was so sorry to read of Carolyn’s death. I had not been in touch for some time and was unaware of her sickness.
During the years you served on the hospital board I always looked forward to spending time with Carolyn at dinners and other outings. We shared our faith in God and hopes for family. She was a very special lady. I am sure she will be missed but know where she is now is better than what she must have been going thru.
I pray God comforts you as you go thru this time of loss.
