Donald E. Meyer: 1952 – 2010

Meyer,_Donald_0001Donald E. Meyer, 57, a resident of rural Albion, passed away at 4:00 a. m. on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the family residence in York Township.  He had been in declining health since 2006, and had been seriously ill for the past month.

Mr. Meyer was born on November 1, 1952, and was raised by his grandparents Dale E. and Virginia Meyer.  He attended the former York Center School, and graduated from Central Noble High School in 1971.

Employed at the Fort Wayne Foundry in Columbia City, he had worked there as a quality control and maintenance worker.  He had also previously been employed at Newnam’s Foundry and Seamco, both in Kendallville.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Albion.   As a young man he was active in 4-H and the  York Township Horse & Pony Club.    In his leisure time he enjoyed horses, bowling, golfing, playing the drums, canoeing, and kayaking.

On September 28, 1990 he was married in Avilla to Lori Ann Harris.  She survives.

Other surviving relatives include his son David E. Meyer of Albion; his parents Janet and Robert Miller of Albion; his siblings Lee Ann Wicker of Auburn, Lisa Brashear of Albion, Robert (Charlotte) Miller, Jr. of Moriarty, N. M., and Brenda (John) Moyer of Kendallville; an aunt Pat (Duane) Norris of Albion; his in-laws Robert A. and Henrietta Harris of LaOtto; and two grandchildren Dirk E. Meyer and Lillian Jean Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; a sister-in-law Lynn Rose Harris; an uncle Dale R. Meyer; and a close friend Pat Biddle

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in the Sugar Grove Church of God, 5019 E   500 S-57, Churubusco, with Pastor Timothy Grable, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Ege Catholic Cemetery, Noble County.

    Don was a special soul, easy to talk to and always willing to listen. He was the best friend Pat could have ever had,and I know that they are catching up in heaven right now.

    Don was a great man and I am so sorry for the pain he had went through. I wish to send my condolences for your family; Robert Newsome sends his condolences also. He was the best father in law I ever had. He treated me like a daughter and I love him for that. All the kindness he showed me, even after the divorce. He was truly a wonderful, kind man.     Don was a good man. I had the pleasure of knowing Don for about 5 years. I worked with him at Fort Wayne Foundry. He was a good man and a good mentor and coworker. I am really sorry for your loss the world is missing a good man now. He will be looking down on the beautiful grandkids he was always bragging about in the emails we would send to each other. I know Don had a long struggle, and while we can be happy for him, knowing he has been released from his pain and celebrate with our Father in heaven, it will be tough down here without him.     My family and I are so sorry for your loss. I only heard this morning from a neighbor. If there is anything we can do, let us know, even if its just to talk. Our father/grandfather died at the begining of the school year.
