Edna Mae “Eddie” Akers: 1926 – 2012

Akers,_Edna_3Edna Mae “Eddie” Akers, 86, a resident of Green Township and wife of Charles Eugene Akers, passed away at 11:59 p. m. on Monday, September 17, 2012, at the family residence following an extended illness.

Mrs. Akers was born on April 17, 1926 near Convoy, Ohio, a daughter of Homer and Lucy (Ingmire) Murphy, and spent her formative years in that area.  On December 31, 1944, she was married in Churubusco to Charles Eugene Akers and spent all of her adult life in Green Township, Noble County.  She was a homemaker and also assisted her husband on the family farm.

Eddie loved reading her Bible and having her family around her.  She was an avid seamstress and made many wonderful quilts and blankets.  She also enjoyed cooking and baking for friends and family, and weeding her flower beds and vegetable garden.  She taught Sunday School and Junior Church for many years, sang in a church trio, and was an active prayer chair participant.

The surviving relatives include her husband Charles Eugene Akers, to whom she was married for over 67 years; her four daughters Karen (John) Whiteman and Margaret “Toot” Mitchell, both of Churubusco, Becky (Ross) Klingenberger of Hudson, and Rhonda Akers of Whitleyville, Tenn; her grandchildren Andrea (Ryan) Colson, Rachel (Bill) Talley, Liz (Jerry) Fye, Esther (Josh) Rose, and Jonathan (Destiny) Akers; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters Inez Martin, Burnice Mohr McMullen, Ruth Gaunt, and Grace Akers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Friday, September 21, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Mike Wetherald, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 to 8 p. m., and one hour prior to the service Friday afternoon.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
