Hulda L. Duncan: 1922 – 2010

Dunca, Hulda 1Hulda L. Duncan, 88, a resident of rural Churubusco and widow of Earnest A. Duncan, passed away at 4:30 p. m. on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at the Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.  She had been in declining health for the past seven years.

Mrs. Duncan was born on January 29, 1922 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of William and Freida (Linnemeier) Kruse, and spent her formative years on the family farm in Washington Township.

As a young woman she was employed in Fort Wayne at General Electric and at Kelly Box, and was married in Fort Wayne Duncan, Hulda 2_0001on August 10, 1945 to Earnest A. Duncan.   She spent all of her adult life in rural Smith Township, and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, its Lutheran Church Women, and the Whitley County Home Extension Club.

Mr. Duncan preceded her in death on January 26, 2000.

The surviving relatives include her children Joyce (Walter, Jr.) Roberson of Longmont, Colorado, and Dale E. (Dee) Duncan and Joan (Randy) Wilson, both of Churubusco.  There are 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Paul Kruse.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, 7914 W. Cook Road, with Pastor Darrol Heggen, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church–Lake Township, or Churubusco Youth For Christ.
