Janice F. Rapp: 1926 – 2009

rapp-janice.jpgJanice F. Rapp, 82, a resident of Churubusco and wife of Dick A. Rapp, died at 5:46 p. m. on Sunday, March 29, 2009, in the emergency room at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after suffering an apparent stroke at the family residence.   Although she had been in declining health for the past nine days, her death was unexpected.

Mrs. Rapp was born in Green Township in Noble County on October 18, 1926, a daughter of John P. and Alta F. (Windle) Trumbull, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1944.  On December 22, 1945 she was married in Ligonier to Dick A. Rapp.  The couple lived all of their married lives in the Churubusco-area, and had resided at their present home since 1971.

A former employee of Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for ten years, she had worked in child care for the past 20 years at Good News Baptist Church for a period, and more recently at the Churubusco Child Care Center.

She and her husband donated the land for the Good News Baptist Church in Churubusco, where she was a charter member.  In addition to her child care and church activities, she enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, playing the piano by ear, and was known for her homemade noodles.  Most importantly, she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

The surviving relatives include her husband Dick A. Rapp, to whom she was married for over 63 years; her children Cheryl (Steve) Fleetwood, Dick A. (Ruth) Rapp, Jr., and Gary L. (Edna) Rapp, all of Churubusco, Daryl (Karen) Rapp of Katy, Texas, and Aaron (Kim) Rapp of Avilla; her sister June R. Hults of Churubusco; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Dwight D. Trumbull on June 30, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the Good News Baptist Church in Churubusco with Pastors Edward A. Thompson and Rick Van Horn, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Thursday.

Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Good News Baptist Church, 812 W. Anderson Road, Churubusco, IN  46723

    Dear Rapp Family & Friends,

I am so deeply saddened to hear the news of Janice’s death. While there is nothing I can say that will ease your loss, I wanted you to know that we are thinking and praying for your family. Janice was such a wonderful person, and so many people will miss her dearly. The Baby room at Churubusco Child Care will NEVER be the same without her.

I loved being able to take my son, James(now 5 years old), to the baby room to know he was loved and cared for by Janice. She most certainly had a way with connecting to the babies.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you journey through this most difficult time. Janice will be sadly missed by everyone. May the love of family, friends, and God comfort you.

Our fond respects to you and yours,
Rachel & Christopher Salemink & James Bales

    Dearest Rapp family,

Our family will be praying for you that Jesus’ comforting arms will be around you during the loss of such a dear one as Janice. We all will miss her dearly here on earth. She was amazing with the babies at Churubusco Child Care. Anyone who worked with her or had a child that was in the infant room when she was there, could tell how much she loved babies!

    Love in Christ,

    Dear Rapp Family,
Our sympathy to all of you. We have fond memories of Janice and the love she had for family and the Lord. What an inspiration she was to the community. I remember all of those CPR classes that she took from me and the fun that we had. She had a great personality and laugh. She will be missed by many.
