Terry L. Buchanan, Sr: 1945 – 2008
Terry L. Buchanan, Sr., 63, a resident of Blue Lake near Churubusco, died on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at his residence. Although he had been in declining health for some time, his death was unexpected.
Mr. Buchanan was born in Indianapolis on November 15, 1945, a son of Herschel L. “Red” and Bernice M. (Troyer) Buchanan. He moved to Blue Lake as a child with his parents, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1964.
He had previously been employed at Harris Kayot in Fort Wayne for several years, and had also worked as a drywall finisher. Prior to his health failing he had worked as the groundskeeper at the Ideal Fish & Game Club in Churubusco. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, and having coffee at the Magic Wand Restaurant.
The surviving relatives include a son Shane (fiancee Pam French) Buchanan of Terre Haute; a daughter Pamela Sommers of Garrett; his fiancee Louise Zimmerman of Churubusco; two brothers Paul A. (Nicolette) Buchanan and Sam J. Buchanan, both of Churubusco; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his devoted dog “Saber.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Terry Lee Buchanan, Jr; a brother Michael James Buchanan; and by a granddaughter Felicia.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, when family and friends will celebrate his life.
The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Friday from 4 to 8 p. m.
Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the Ideal Fish & Game Club in Churubusco.
